WestWater Engineering prepared an expansion study for the City of Rifle’s water treatment plant. The plant has a present rated capacity of 3.7 mgd; it was designed for expansion to 7.4 mgd.
The report recommended installation of a sand/anthracite media and a second filter, a more efficient sludge removal mechanism for the tube settling tank, and various improvements to optimize operation of the flocculation system, flash mix, and chemical feed processes.
A hydraulic analysis was also prepared for the raw water pump system and the filtered water pump systems to determine adequacy of the system and provide recommendations for future expansion.
